William David Fastenow

WILLIAM DAVID FASTENOW is a composer, electronicist, educator, and arts technology entrepreneur based in San Juan Capistrano, CA and Brooklyn, NY.

Projects include performance technology direction for Beyond the Machine, Future Stages, and a telematic presentation of Terry Riley’s In C (The Juilliard School); performance technology design for Basetrack Live (En Garde Arts) which was hailed as one of the “Top 10 Theatrical Events of 2014″ by Charles Isherwood (New York Times); Lifelines, a voiceless multimedia opera; Vernal Periphony, for telematic ensemble presented via the internet with spatialized sound; Ullswater (William David Fastenow Jazz Orchestra); a reimagination of Radio Music (John Cage) for internet radio and twitter; co-designing interactive audio and visual systems in The Airband (with Langdon C. Crawford); and record/mix engineering for film and music including the award-winning Monica & David (documentary by Alexandra Codina), Graceland (feature film by Ron Morales), and Baby Beau Blue (album by A.J. Shanti).

Mr. Fastenow is founder and principal of Park Boulevard Productions, strategic director of MorrowSound, adjunct professor and founding director of performance technology at The Juilliard School Center for Innovation in the Arts. He has lectured in performance technology at NYU, NYU Abu Dhabi, Atlantic Music Festival, Long Island University, and Queens Community College. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Humber College (Toronto), Master of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music and is currently pursuing a PhD in Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology at University of California, Irvine.

He has a jazz habit, a passion for interdisciplinary collaboration, figuring out how to make broken things work, and making complex things simple. As often as possible, he and his wife and kids enjoy exploring odd corners of the globe, finding new vistas, sounds, watering holes, and adventures.
